As I was catching up with the most important news this morning, which means I was watching Sports Center, I heard more talk about the Brett Farve “to retire or not to retire, that is the question” controversy.
It seems like everytime a major sports star retires they always try to make the “big comeback” a season later, or in Farve’s case, two months later. Some instances of this that I can recall are:
Ryne Sandberg, (Chicago Cubs 2nd baseman)
and, I’m sure, Michael Jordan will comeback and retire again soon.
I can’t image how hard it is to walk away from something you love. Maybe its so hard because we tend to wrap our identity up in our work. To answer the question, “who are you?”, we say “I’m a…teacher, farmer, engineer, professional poker player, waitress, you fill in the rest of the blanks.”
When your job is your identity, then if that is taken away, you essentially have an identity crisis on your hands.
So, how would you answer the following question, “Who are you?”
I’ll start us off. My name is Josh, and I am a broken person being put back together by my Creator.
What about you? Looking forward to hearing from you.
