What you look for, you will find…

I am increasingly convinced that this old saying is true:

‘What you look for, you will find.’

To be honest, there are plenty of reasons to look at our lives and the world around us and be totally discouraged. There are reasons to be cynical, bitter, and jaded. If we wanted to throw up our hands in resignation, no one would blame us. 

But, from another angle, maybe they would. 

Because for every single reason we have to be cynical, bitter, and discouraged, there are also countless reasons to be full of hope, joy, and wonder.

If you are reading this, then you can do something that more than a billion people in the world can’t–you can read.

If we have a roof over our heads, a warm place to sleep, clothes to wear, and food to eat we are already ahead of the game.

I’m becoming more and more aware that, so many times, it really does come down to a matter of perspective.

We have plenty to complain about, but more to be grateful for.

We have plenty of reasons to despair, but far more [bigger and better] reasons to have hope.

In Philippians 4v8, Paul writes:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. [TNIV]

I think Paul  is addressing this issue of perspective. What you look for, you will find. 

May we have eyes that are wide open to continually see and be grateful for all the good that we have been given. May we overflow with wonder and awe at the blessing that is ours right here and right now.
